What to do in Merano, Italy?Well, there are plentyoutdoor activitiesyou can choose from. We went for biking and hiking, which turned out to be a great idea. Merano & around is a great location to be but make sure to plan enough time for this trip during summer, as it gets pretty crowded and also very busy on the roads. Cycle from Rabland to Bolzano
Cycling is the best around Merano.I'm not sure if we've seen better cycling paths elsewhere! It seems they are everywhere - a cycling paradise, we would say! As our accommodation was in Rabland, we started cycling from there along the river to Merano and then further via Bolzano and back. It was crazy beautiful! I think it should be around 80 km if you reach Bolzano and go all the way back, but we turned around before Bolzano, as it was too hot. But loved the paths there and the surroundings! Go for it!
Hike the Meran Höhenweg
The hike we did was part of the famousMeran Höhenweg.It started at the cable car station Giggelberg and ended at Unterstell. It took us about 4 hours of walking with all the coffee, sandwich, drone & whatsoever breaks :) Officially it is 3:30 of walking. Some statistics: 8.2 km long, it goes 460 m up and 720 m down. It is not that hard but make sure to take sun cream, lots of water and someting to eat with you. Is it worth to go, you might be wondering? Oh yes, definitely - especially the views are fantastic! But there are also some cool waterfalls and 2 bridges to cross! Look at the photos below.
Where We Stayed Around Merano, Italy
So, the place we stayed at was called theResidence Gerold, located in Rabla(German: Rabland). Look, it was an old-fashioned apartment with some deficiencies but it was spacious with a balcony and not expensive for this region. Also, the location turned out to be perfect, as the cycling path to Merano was just nearby and the cable car to Giggelberg was only 5 min walk away. Here'sthe link to check it out.
